Local Theater Company has partnered with the Colorado Justice Department to provide training to emerging probation staff through simulated real-world interviews involving professional actors.
Currently, we are assembling a team of performers who could participate in the quarterly training. One does not need to be available for all dates, which are TBD beyond the first session on Thursday, May 7, 8:30 am - 12:30 pm. All sessions will be held at the Ralph Carr Judicial Center, 1300 Broadway, Denver, CO 80203, Colorado Headwaters Room (2nd Floor).
If you are interested in being considered for this project, please contact Co-Artistic Director Nick Chase ASAP and answer the questions below:
Are you available for the first training session on Thursday, May 7, 2026, 8:30 am - 12:30 pm in Denver?
Are you able to complete the background check mentioned below by Tuesday, May 5, EOD?
Are you comfortable improvising responses to questions based on a character profile?
PROJECT OVERVIEW
The CO Probation Academy (facilitated under SCAO, a Division of Probation Services) provides training to emerging probation staff. In order to simulate real-world experiences for trainees in which uncontrolled variables are introduced, trained actors play realistic clients in order to simulate interactions. These look like conversations about risk, behavior change, and goal setting, so our staff can practice motivational interviewing, feedback, and decision-making in a safe setting.
There will be 9 stations total, each staffed by one actor and one instructor/coach. There are 3 different client/scenarios, with 3 actors to play each scenario
There will be 5 probation officers per group.
Groups rotate at the top of each hour.
During each hour:
Each participant will have 11 minutes with the actor to practice the targeted skill.
Participants rotate until all 5 members of the group have practiced.
At the end of the hour, a new group arrives at the station and the scenarios restart.
COMPENSATION
$135 for 4 hours of work + review of character case file in advance
ADDITIONAL NOTE
All contracted performers must complete a Criminal History Check (“CHC”). This is a fast process (~15 minutes). The cost is $39.94, which Local will reimburse with your compensation mentioned above.
