Local Theater Company is many things to many different people.

A launchpad for playwrights. A creative home for artists. A community space for audiences. A source of inspiration for students.  A place to have deep conversations, and experience the joy of live theater.

But at its core, Local is YOU.

Since our founding in 2011, we have developed 80 new plays. When we choose the stories we develop, we have our community in mind. We ask ourselves: What does our community need right now? Maybe it’s laughter. Maybe it’s a new perspective. Maybe it’s a chance to come together and have a difficult conversation. Whatever the answer, it starts with you.

Stories have the power to bring us together. From the spark of an idea to the closing performance, we create opportunities to see ourselves and one another more clearly.

Through LocalWRITES, middle and high school students find their voice as they write original dialogue and plays—and build deeper connections with their classmates by listening to each other’s perspectives. You can see some of their work in the video below.

Through Come Together, we create spaces for belonging, conversation, learning, and deeper understanding.

Through Local Listens, community members share their stories and engage in civic dialogue that can inspire the new plays of tomorrow. This year, Local Listens: HOME explores housing in Boulder County.

None of this is possible without people like YOU who believe in the power of new stories, arts education, and community.
